So, I wake up this morning, throw on my Bella Dahl sweats with the blue star on the butt and proceed to walk Pugsley down the road. When, what to my groggy eyes should appear along the roadside bramble but a lone Tori Amos Little Earthquakes CD that I almost tripped over. Would that Pugsley didn’t lift his leg and pee on it. It was shattered, cracked, run over… like my spirit. How sad I thought and how odd, I have the same CD in my collection. We walked a little further almost to the stop sign and see another – Violent Femmes Live. Okay, too much of a coincidence. There are no coincidences. We finish Pugsley’s morning jaunt and head straight to the Jeep.
My entire CD collection is GONE. Gone Case Logic holder of more than 50 cd’s that I’ve had some 10 years. Gone CD holders containing my new flea market finds and Ebay purchases of 3 Doors Down, the Firm, and my cherished can’t-live-without Jim Morrison’s spoken word "An American Prayer". Gone.
Gone was the musical contents of my Glove box and Arm Rest storage. Gone was my Pure Moods and Riverdance collections. Gone Led Zeppelin Live at the BBC Sessions. Gone Daddy Gone. Dave Matthews, Doors, No Doubt, Nirvana, Singles Soundtrack, U2, Madonna, Queen, etc. etc. Hundreds of dollars worth of CD’s Gone. Perhaps the most irreplaceable -- my collection of homemade CD’s that I spent hours downloading MP3’s and burning to disc.
I called the police and filed a report. There were foot prints near my Jeep and fingerprints. They started interviewing neighbors. Called the insurance company but my deductible is more than the value of the CD’s so basically it’s a total loss and I am screwed.
The Lone survivor -- my Urban Cowboy Soundtrack that was actually in the disc player at the time of the theft.
The odd thing -- nothing else was stolen. There was no damage done to my Jeep. Which makes me wonder -- was it someone I know? Someone who knew how to hit me where it hurts?
Apparently I need to start locking my truck in my own driveway now. I live out in the country for God’s sake.
O villain, smiling, damned villain! How thou dost afflict me!

Lori, I'm so sorry to hear about your bad luck! Talk about hitting you where it hurts! Hang in there -- use this as an opportunity to get an iPod!

I to am very sorry, I can imagine how you must feel. : ( Hugggggggggggggg

Lori, I re-read my comment and didn't want to come across as being insensitive and think that maybe the "iPod" comment may have come across that way. (I was just trying to give you something positive to focus on) I know how violated you feel when someone breaks into your car -- uneasy, uncomfortable, what next feelings -- as my car was broken into last year. Hang in there and I hope this rest of your weekend has been uneventful!

I'm sorry to hear that happened to you. I had that happen to me and they only took money that was laying in the car and my purse was in there and they only took the cash money out of it and didn't take the credit cards or anything else. I think my burglary was little kids. Maybe it was kids that took the CDs from you since they didn't take anything else.

We have a lot of the same taste in music so you are more than welcome to burn whatever you would like off of my itunes, or I would gladly drop off my book of cds at your job and you can burn them at your leisure. I never use the actual CDs anymore anyway. :o)
Let me know when is a good time for you. You know the number.

Gosh lori i know how much that sucks. I've had two stereos stolen (oakland ranks something like #2 in the US for car breakins). I had it happen once in SF too, have replaced all 4 of my old cars windows...it's evil. The last time it happened they took nothing, left my door open (so the battery could have died) and took my cds...my cds were all burned so worth nothing and they were things i made while in japan so they were all japanese artists from my friends there...MEAN what the fuck? honestly tho, i think the person was just cracked out and looking for something to sell...yipe. i agree with toni tho, get an ipod STAT, right now i have a factory stereo that isn't worth stealing (key #1) and a cheap casette tape that plugs into to to make my ipod have the hookup, then of course you can burn cds or keep backups but it really sucks just sucks! I am sorry.

oh! i can't believe the police talked to you too, they don't even care to come out or talk to you about that kind of thing here...but on the same thing...you live in the country and shouldn't have to lock your door...so lame. bastards...karma will get them tho, don't worry....just keep looking on that road for others!!

Dang, I'm very sorry to hear about your car being broken into and your CDs stolen. My car was broken into this last Sunday, 28-Aug. Rather than go into the boring detail, if you're interested in reading about my experience, as it compares to yours, I've written about it here: http://www.doggydiaries.pudgypuppy.com/archives/2005/08/never-take-it-for-granted-.php
Although your CDs are all gone, I'm glad to hear that there was no damage to your Jeep. That was pretty low of someone to steal your CD collection. Those can take months and years to build, and within one fell swoop, it's all gone. Stupid, heartless thief.
My husband was a DJ many moons ago, and he's got quite a number of older CDs. Please feel free to drop me a line if there are some CDs you can't find that you want to replace. I'll look through his old collection and see if he's got them.

Sorry about the CDs! Hard to believe that was done in your hood!
But since you have the Urban Cowboy soundtrack.....I'd start listening to 'Lookin' For Love in all the Wrong Places'! You need an action man not just a words man!
