fonts and such
February 26, 2008

I’ve been playing around with my fonts and honestly am having a hard time choosing one.

Previously I was using a Verdana extra small font that looked like this. I felt like it was too small so I’ve been sampling other font sizes and faces. For now I kept the Verdana font but increased the size. Now I feel like the words together formed in paragraphs are too fat. Help my blog is feeling bloated and is PMS'ing!

Seriously....I can use your help. You as the readers whose eyes need to be pleased. Which of these fonts do you prefer?

This font is Times New Roman . I use it in my word docs at work. I think this one is too corporate for my blog and not pleasing to the eye. Would you agree? This font is Times New Roman . Georgia is another one of my favorites. It’s clean like Arial but more rounded than square edges. Do you like this one the best? Georgia is another one of my favorites. It’s clean like Arial but more rounded than square edges. Do you like this one the best?

Garamond is similar to Georgia but more modern looking than classic. How about this one? Garamond is similar to Georgia but more modern looking than classic. How about this one? Garamond is similar to Georgia but more modern looking than classic. How about this one?

This font is Microsoft Sans Serif . It is kind of cool, what do we think of this one? This font is Microsoft Sans Serif . It is kind of cool, what do we think of this one? This font is Microsoft Sans Serif . It is kind of cool, what do we think of this one?

So help me out. Which of these fonts do you think looks best? Or do you have another font to suggest?

i'd use - Trebuchet

as I feel its easy on the eyes yet still has an "official" stance

plus it looks cool with larger type sizes, very smooth look to it.

but then again my idol has a thing for using the correct font:

yes its a long video but besides a Font topic - its a very cool speech...

I like Garamond! :) I will read your blog regardless of what font you use but Garamond pleases me for some reason!

Thanks for the feedback Macguy..didn't think you'd be picking the Microsoft one :)

I enjoyed the Steve Jobs speech very much. Never knew he had cancer either.

Either Garamond or Georgia, but I would read you even if you used Hebrew.

okay soo...i live with a designer who eats and breaths fonts. You should go with a seriff font because they are easier to read in general. so...stick with verdana (that's what i've always used). OR i know nick thing's garamond is a nice one...i used to do my resume with that one...but avoid arial please! :)

Verdana -- for sure...

Garamond. Stylish but still easy to read.

Verdana at the previous font size.

I adore Trebuchet, probably a lot of it is the name, it's sounds so.... french ahhh, the romance of... fonts?

I think Verdana is best, it's easy on the eyes, especially for more than a paragraph or two.

Trebuchet is interesting in short burts, but seems bunch up in places and slow down reading (or maybe that's just me). Arial is way too overused. Georgia is nice, tho I'd use it at a larger size than your sample.

So we have a tie at 4 for Verdana and 4 for Garamond. Anyone else?
I am currently using Verdana so it would be easy enough to leave it.

Personally the Microsoft Sans Serif if the most pleasing to my eye in paragraph blocks....hmmmm

I like Garamond! My all-time favorite font is century gothic, though. I think that one should have been mentioned, too!

So Garamond is one ahead..alas I prefer Verdana over Garamond which leaves us back to a tie. I will leave the font as Verdana for now and maybe next month switch it out.
Thanks for the votes
