first concert poll
September 28, 2008

I was thinking about my first concert in 1985. It was the English rock group known as The Firm, a band comprised of former members of Bad Company and Led Zeppelin.

While the band only put out 2 albums, the first record titled, "the Firm" is still in my Top 20 of all time. I actually still have the original tape cassette in my car. I can even tell you what I wore to the concert - a red and black checkered 80's top with Levi's jeans and black shoes. I wore my hair curly and my bf found a cigarette case on the floor of the stadium that was filled with $50.00, 18 cigarettes and two joints. I was sitting in the 4th row with Jimmy Page directly in front me. What I remember the most about him is how incredibly long and nimble his fingers are and how crazy his eyes, almost like a deep hypnotic purple color.

You might remember this song which was popular back then..

I am curious to know what your first concert experience was. Not the "best" concert you've been to but what was the very "first" plus any memories you want to share. And no cheating if it was some really cheesy band of the times like Milli Vanilli or Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch.

This is one of the profile questions for all yelp users!

My first concert was The Rolling Stones when I was about 13. My mom and dad took me and we were in a row that ticketmaster didn't actually build, so we got moved to the 3rd row. I kept remarking that the air smelled weird and my mom told me that was weed. My first concert without my parents was garbage in a tiny all ages club in san diego before they were super famous. Then U2 and then a billion more after that. I heart music.

Deep Purple, Made in Japan tour. At Chicago Stadium. Drank wine all the way there in the back of my friends GAWDY custom van. Very cool in the 70's. Deep Purple was the feature band but also there was Savoy Brown and ELO. When Deep Purple finished playing and everyone was holding up a match or lighter I started a paper cup on fire and held that up. When it got a little bigger that I wanted it to I threw it on the ground to put it out but there was a paper napkin inside it. It flew out and landed on the guy in front of me starting his very 70's style poly shirt on fire and it melted to his back before someone put it out. We were out of there in a hurry.
Have not thought about that in a long time. Good memory.

The Osmonds... I was, like, 10 and cried because every time Donny stepped to the mike to sing the girls would scream SO loud I couldn't hear him. I remember dad tried to move us to another section of the arena but it was just as bad.

At least I got to see him.

Jefferson Starship and .38 Special when I was 16 or 17. Can't remember much about Jefferson Starship but .38 Special kicked ass even though they were the opening band!

I was grounded and forbidden to go but I "snuck out" to see Heart... it was worth it although the opening act was some cheesy one hit wonder from the 80's and he wasn't all that great! I can't even remember his name. He threw a tambourine up in the air and dropped it in the middle of his act. (not that I would do any better I suppose ;-) It was a good memory nonetheless.

Oh I almost forgot it was snowing like crazy that night... it took forever to get home and "snuck back in". I didn't even get "caught" till like last year when I let it slip. Mom claims she knew. I'm not so sure.

Oh well ttyl. love, yfsl

My first real concert was Moist in the late '90s. Gob opened up for Matthew Good Band who opened up for Moist. I was mainly there for Matt Good though. It was alot of fun, I remembering stuffing my throwaway camera down my pants because they were searching peoples bags, coats and the ankles of the girls wearing flare jeans. lol

ZZ Top... Little Rock... We were 14, 15, didn't even have money between the 3 of us for parking, so went up to this VERY nice elderly lady's house, she let us park in her yard... Saw them again in Monroe...

We saw Def Leppard & Bryan Adams last year, also Foreigner... Both were awesome... My brother got drunk & lost $300 on the way home (or maybe he spent it to buy all the beer..LOL)...

So totally NOT part of this poll, but you MUST read this girl's "one famous person I've met" experience... I thought of you immediately.

The first concert I ever saw was Dino, Gary and some other dude at Disneyland back in '63. It was Dino Martin (Dean's son) Gary Lewis (Jerry's son before he got fucked up on drungs in Nam) and some one else, but I can't remember. On Saturday nights at DL they had a 'HOP.' The first group I paid to see was Peter Paul and Mary - also in the '60s.
